All Prophets Were Muslims

19 Jul

Many people have the misconception that Islam started about 1,420+ years ago, and that Prophet Muhammad was the founder of the religion of Islam. In fact, Islam existed since man first set foot on this earth.

“Submission” to God existed since man first set foot on Earth. Muhammad isn’t the founder of Islam, but the last and final messenger of Islam. The word “Islam” was first revealed to Muhammad by Allah, but the way of life of ”submission to God’s will” existed since time immorial. Hence, all Prophets of Allah submitted their will to God and abided by the laws which they had to follow. They all preached this fascinating way of life of submission to God.

The following authentic Hadith shows that all Prophets were Muslims:
Sahih Muslim, Book 30, Hadith Number 5834:
“Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: I am most akin to the son of Mary among the whole of mankind and the Prophets are of different mothers, but of one religion, and no Prophet was raised between me and him (Jesus Christ).”

Prophet Nuh (Noah) was a Muslim:

Surah Araf 7:59:
“We sent Noah to his people. He said: “O my people! worship Allah! ye have no other god but Him. I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful day!”
Noah warned his people about the punishment of the hereafter, and preached sumbission to one God, which is Allah. Similarly, Islam means sumbission to God, which is exactly what Prophet Noah did.
Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) was a Muslim:
Surah Imran 3:67:
“Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian; but he was true in Faith, and bowed his will to God’s (Which is Islam), and he joined not gods with God.”

Prophet Musa (Moses) was a Muslim:
Surah Yunus 10:84:
“Moses said: “O my people! If ye do (really) believe in God, then in Him put your trust if ye submit (your will to His).”
Notice that Moses said in Surah Yunus 10:84 to believe in God if ye sumbit your will to God. Since Moses did believe in God, Moses did sumbit his will to God. Anyone who does this, is called a Muslim.

Prophet Isa (Jesus) was a Muslim:

Surah Imran 3:52:
“When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: “Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah?” Said the disciples: “We are Allah’s helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims.”
Surah Maidah 5:117:
“Never said I to them aught except what Thou didst command me to say, to wit, ‘worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord’; and I was a witness over them whilst I dwelt amongst them; when Thou didst take me up Thou wast the Watcher over them, and Thou art a witness to all things.

Mary returns to her people after the birth, whereupon she is scandalized. She points to her newborn baby and he speaks to the accusers from his cradle,

{Behold, I am a servant of God. He has vouchsafed unto me revelation and made me a prophet, and made me blessed wherever I may be; and He has enjoyed upon me prayer and charity as long as I shall live… Hence, peace was upon me on the day I was born, and will be upon me on the day of my death, and on the day when I shall be raised to life again.} (Maryam 19: 30-3). This is Jesus’ first miracle.

From this amazing beginning, Jesus Christ grows up to be a noble man. He establishes his mission as an apostle to the Children of Israel. And God’s promise that he would perform other miracles is fulfilled. He heals the blind and the leper, and brings the dead back to life. He performs these miracles “all by God’s leave,” according to the Quran. God gave Jesus the power to perform miracles, as opposed to the miracles being evidence of Jesus’ divine status.

Jesus is mentioned in the Quran more than is Muhammad. He is called the ‘Word of God’ and the ‘Spirit of God’, but most often, ‘the son of Mary’. In the Quranic narrative he is not crucified.

The head of the religion department at Luther College in Iowa recently argued that Jesus Christ, the central figure of Christianity, was in fact, a Muslim.

“‘Was Jesus a Muslim?” asks Prof. Robert F. Shedinger in the beginning of a book he published this year entitled Was Jesus a Muslim? ” I will answer with a very qualified yes.”

“Even as a Christian I have to answer yes to that,” said Shedinger, who is the head of the religion department at Luther College in Iowa.

Shedinger also argued that Islam is a better fit for Jesus since it is not a religion but a “social justice movement.”

“I had to rethink what Islam is… I came to the conclusion that it was a social justice movement and I think that’s who Jesus was in the first century so I conclude Jesus is more like a Muslim,” he said.

Also:
Surah Shura 42:13:
“The same religion has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Noah – the which We have sent by inspiration to thee – and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that ye should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein: to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which thou callest them. Allah chooses to Himself those whom He pleases, and guides to Himself those who turn (to Him).”

Hence, all Prophets submitted their wills to God, making them Muslims. All Prophets carried the main fundamental doctrine of Allah, that there is only one God and worship him alone, who has no images, idols, statues, etc. Other specific rulings back then were only meant for Prophets before Muhammad, for their time and for their own Prophets. Muhammad is the final Prophet of Allah, who bought the final teachings which are applicable to mankind today, to lead them from darkness to light.

Allah has said with regards to the Jews, “Many of the People of the Book wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed, out of envy from their own selves even after the truth has become clear to them.” [Al-Baqarah (2):109]

‘They wish’ meaning that they hope to make you aspostisise from your religion out of jealousy. So jealousy was the deciding factor behind their wish even after the Truth had been made clear to them. This because when they saw you attain what you attained of blessings – in fact they saw you attain that which they themselves had never attained – they became jealous of you. Similarly this is mentioned in another verse, “Or do they envy men for what Allah has given them of His bounty? Then We have already given the family of Abraham the Book of Wisdom, and conferred upon them a great kingdom. Of them were (some) who believed in him (Muhammad) and of them were some who averted their faces from him and enough is Hell for burning (them)…” [An-Nisaa’ (4): 54-55]
