The charges stem from a 2014 incident in which Wilders led supporters to chant that they wanted “Fewer! Fewer! Fewer!” Moroccans in the Netherlands.

Wilders is the leader of the far-right Freedom Party which is currently leading in national polls and is forecast to surge ahead of its rivals at the country’s election in March 2017.

Wilders was previously acquitted of hate speech at another trial in 2011.
